Nigerian filmmaker and producer Seun Egbegbe recently discussed his time in prison.
In a recent interview with Biola Adebayo on the ‘Talk to B’ podcast, Seun Egbegbe reflected on his experiences, noting that he focused on survival during his time in prison.
He acknowledged the harsh realities of prison life, stating that inmate fatalities occur daily.
Egbegbe expressed gratitude for his release, attributing it to his faith.
He described the challenging conditions in prison, including the “welcome cell” for new inmates, where he witnessed a high mortality rate.
In his words:
“People died every day in that prison. It is not a good place. I told God that if you truly exist, then I must leave here alive.
“If you go and return, thank God. Know that He loves you and has given you a second chance to live.
“There is a cell for new prisoners; it is called ‘welcome cell’. If 20 people were brought in overnight, at least two would be found dead by the following morning.”
Recall that in 2017, Egbegbe was remanded on fraud charges involving big sums of money.
He was granted bail but remained in custody due to inability to meet the conditions.
After five years and eight months, he was finally acquitted in 2022.
