Omah Lay calls out colleague for stealing his album idea
  • Nigerian Afropop music star Stanley Omah Didia, whose stage name is Omah Lay, has peaked the attention of many with his recent revelation.
  • During a chat with media personality Zach Sang on the show where music and pop culture are discussed, Omah revealed that his idea was stolen.
  • He noted that a Nigerian Afrobeat star stole his idea to make their album just four months after he shared his plans with them.

The Nigerian music scene has always been controversial, especially with accusations of intellectual property theft.

This is not any different as Stanley Omah Didia, professionally known as Omah Lay, has given a detailed account of a heartbreaking event that led to him redoing his entire album.

Omah Lay alleged that a colleague he shared the idea of what was supposed to be his next album with, stole the idea to make his own album.

He stated that he shared the idea with the unnamed colleague because they wanted to collaborate but the artiste went on to release an album with the same idea he shared with them.

Speaking on the Zach Sang Show, Omah Lay added that the incident made him re-record his album. In his words:

“My song ‘Holy Ghost’ is a new sound. I was going to make the whole album with the new sound but along the line, I changed my mind.”

“I shared an idea with a certain artiste and the artiste went ahead and put out an album with my idea and I had to re-record my album.”

“He came to me and I accepted for us to collaborate. Of course, it’s an artiste that I love. And I told him where I’m headed with the sound. Five months later, he put out an album with exactly all the same sound that I shared with him.”

“I had to go back and remake my album which is actually going to be the greatest album of all time in Afrobeats history.”
