- Lolo has claimed men now undergo body modification, even much more than women.
- The actress made the statement during her podcast
- She was however quick to note that while it isn’t as prevalent in Africa, it has become a growing trend.
Nollywood actress cum media personality, Omotunde Adebowale-David popularly known as Lolo1 or by her character name Adaku which she played in the highly popular TV programme, Jenifa’s Diary has brought attention to the growing trend of body modifications among men, revealing that it is more common than many realize.
Speaking on a recent episode of her popular podcast, Say My Piece, the actress delved into the often-overlooked subject of male body enhancements, a trend she says is quietly gaining momentum.
During the episode, Lolo stated:
“Today we have a very interesting topic that we want to talk about and whether you like it or not, it has become the norm. I know a lot of times we say that women do body enhancements more, but let me shock you, men too are into body modification more.”
Lolo pointed out that while women are more often associated with body modifications, men are increasingly opting for such procedures, albeit more discreetly.
She noted that this trend is not as widely discussed in Africa but is slowly gaining traction.
She explained:
“Men do it a lot but we’re just not focusing on it in Africa just yet, I’m not saying it’s prevalent; I said women do it more. Even if we look at the indices among men, maybe a small 5 percent, but it’s being done now,”
She went on to mention that certain cosmetic procedures, such as Botox, are becoming increasingly common among men.
Lolo pointed out that subtle facelifts, chin enhancements, and tightening around the eyes are specific procedures gaining popularity. Lolo shared:
“I have seen some men that have subtly done facelifts in Nigeria. Sometimes it’s the chin and around their eyes to tighten the face a little. Men even take Botox—Charly Boy has come out to say that he takes Botox. That’s a cosmetic procedure too, to give you a youthful look.”
The actress also emphasized that while the trend is more widespread outside Africa, it’s slowly creeping into the continent. Lolo added:
“In the world outside Africa, men do body modifications all the time—they give themselves biceps, lipo, fake abs. Do you know that some men do penis enlargement now?”
