Peter Obi, Gov. Alex Otti, others watch with heavy hearts as Onyeka Onwenu is laid to rest in Lagos (VIDEO)

There, in the heart of Lagos, under a brooding sky that mirrored the collective sorrow of the crowd, Peter Obi, Gov. Alex Otti, and countless others watched through tear-blurred eyes as Onyeka Onwenu, the 'Elegant Stallion,' was laid to rest. And yet, as they lowered her into the ground, it felt as though the very earth cried out in protest, unwilling to let go of a woman who had given her all to the entertainment industry she loved. Her voice was the song of a generation, her spirit the fight of a lifetime. We will forever miss her courage, her kindness, and the way she made the world a brighter place simply by being in it

Nigeria bids a tearful farewell to one of its most cherished music icons, Onyeka Onwenu, affectionately known as the “Elegant Stallion,” as she was laid to rest in a deeply moving ceremony in Lagos.

The final chapter of her storied life unfolded at the Fountain of Life Church in Ilupeju, where friends, family, and fans gathered to honor the memory of a woman whose voice had resonated far beyond the realms of music.

The funeral service, marked by powerful tributes and emotional eulogies, painted a picture of a life lived with grace and purpose.

Videos capturing the solemn proceedings flooded social media, showing grieving moments at the church and the private burial that followed at a serene vault in Ikoyi.

Onwenu’s legacy is a tapestry woven with threads of multiple talents and passions. She was not just a legendary musician with countless hits to her name, but also a respected broadcaster, a gifted actress, a courageous politician, and a relentless activist.

Her untimely passing on July 30, 2024, at Reddington Hospital in Ikeja, after she tragically collapsed at an event honoring Dr. Stella Okoli, the Managing Director of Emzor Pharmaceuticals, sent shockwaves through the nation and beyond.

She leaves behind a void that can never truly be filled, survived by her two devoted sons who, like the rest of us, will forever carry the torch of her remarkable spirit.
