Portable Acknowledges Olamide's Influence in the Music Industry

Nigerian musician Habeeb Okikiola, popularly known as Portable, has expressed his gratitude towards rapper Olamide, for his guidance in the music industry.

In a recent interview with Echo Room, Portable referred to Olamide as his “godfather,” crediting him for his entry into the industry.

Portable recalled that Olamide faced criticism for collaborating with him on the remix of his hit song “Zazu” in 2021.

He however highlighted that this support has contributed to his current international success, including a feature from British rapper Skepta and a world tour.

Olamide is my Godfather. He brought me to the industry. One day, I messaged him and asked if he had issues with me because he stopped posting me.

“When Olamide helped me, people said he made a mistake. Look at me now, I have gone international and Skepta featured me. I’m touring the world,” he said.

Portable had earlier revealed that his song ‘zazu’ blew worldwide before Olamide’s remix.

He asserted that Olamide would not have assisted him if he was not popular and his song had not gone viral.

Speaking on the most recent episode of the Bae U Barbi show, portable refuted rumors that he has been basking on the wave of ‘Zazu’ since becoming famous, stating that he has created other hit songs and two albums since stardom.

He said:

“Since when we did dropped ‘Zazu’ with Baddo [Olamide], that one has gone [sic]. I am the one they [fans] are listening to, I am dropping back to back. If you don’t drop again, they will forget you. If I don’t drop again, they won’t hear me. That is why I am putting more energy.

“It is because I was popular that made Olamide help me. If I wasn’t popular, they won’t help me. ‘Zazu’ blew worldwide. My freestyle went viral”.
