- Speaking to reporters after the coroner’s inquest, Mohbad’s father, Mr Joseph Aloba expressed grief and criticized individuals planning to profit from the upcoming first anniversary of Mohbad’s tragic passing.
- He painfully cursed this type of people, declaring that they and their families would suffer from leprosy.
Joseph Aloba, father of the late Nigerian singer Ilerioluwa Oladimeji Aloba, also known as Mohbad, has condemned and cursed those seeking to make money from his son’s tragic death.
On September 11, 2024, while leaving the court following a coroner’s inquest into Mohbad’s death, Joseph addressed reporters, expressing his dismay over the exploitation of his son’s memory.
In a video, Baba Mohbad spoke about the upcoming one-year remembrance of his son, who died under tragic circumstances on September 12, 2023, at the age of 27. With sadness, he reflected on the ongoing grief he feels, stating that he still shed tears whenever he hears Mohbad’s music.
He harshly criticized individuals seeking to benefit financially from the first anniversary of his son’s passing, cursing those who, in his view, plan to exploit the tragic occasion. He declared that such people and their families would be stricken with leprosy, emphasizing that this was not a time for profit but for remembrance and justice.
Speaking in Yoruba, Joseph reiterated that despite the time that has passed, justice for Mohbad has yet to be served.
He said:
“I talked about Mohbad’s first death anniversary and how it’s in two categories. Some people want to use the death of a 26-year-old to make money. When I pass and his song is playing, I shed tears. So if somebody has decided that his death anniversary is an opportunity for them to make money, they and their family will suffer from leprosy. This is the time to remember that it has been one year, and we still haven’t gotten justice.”
