Former Nigerian senator and political firebrand, Dino Melaye, has weighed in on the crippling fuel price hike that’s squeezing both the rich and the poor in Nigeria.
The country has been rocked by an unprecedented surge in pump prices, which have now soared to jaw-dropping levels—N855, N1,000, and even higher per litre, depending on where you fill up.
The fuel price hike have shaken the nation to its core, sending transport costs skyrocketing and paralyzing economic activities in cities across the country.
Never one to mince words, Melaye, a staunch critic of President Bola Tinubu’s administration, did not hold back in his scathing tirade.
The senator, taking to his social media page, laid bare the fact that the outrageous price hikes have hit even the wealthiest Nigerians, including himself, where it hurts most—right in the garage.
Melaye, who is no stranger to living large, revealed that he can no longer afford to keep his luxurious fleet on the road. From Lamborghinis to Ferraris and a collection of other high-end bikes that once graced his lavish living room, they’ve all become relics of the past, sitting idle as the fuel crisis drains his ability to fuel them.
But the politician, ever the dramatic showman, wasn’t about to let the fuel crisis cramp his style completely. In a grandiose gesture of “economic survival,” the former senator said he took a drastic action, jetted off to Dubai to purchase a Vespa motorcycle, a legendary Italian symbol of sleek mobility since 1946.
According to him, the Vespa not only saves fuel but also has the durability to take him anywhere he wants to go, without bleeding his wallet dry.
To prove he’s serious about this new, more frugal way of life, Dino Melaye treated his social media followers to a flashy demonstration.
He proudly displayed his newly acquired Vespa in the video clip, dramatically rode it out of his sprawling mansion and onto the streets.
