Ogun State Governor, Prince Dapo Abiodun, has expressed his strong support for upcoming film ‘Lisabi’, which is set to premiere on Netflix soon.
During a visit from filmmaker cum actor Lateef Adedimeji and his actress wife, Bimpe Oyebade, on Wednesday evening, Abiodun underscored the importance of using cinema to educate younger generations about the sacrifices of historical heroes.
Abiodun praised Adedimeji’s initiative, stating that portraying historical figures like Lisabi on the big screen would enhance the youth’s appreciation for their contributions.
He also encouraged theatre practitioners nationwide to embrace their role in preserving and sharing the nation’s rich history.
In an interview following the meeting, Adedimeji expressed his gratitude for the governor’s support and discussed his plans for a film village and resort center in Abeokuta, near Ogun State Television.
He emphasized that his vision includes filming stories about Ogun State’s heroes within the state itself.
“We are here because Ogun is my home, and Lisabi Agbogbon Akala is a story about one of our heroes. Since the film is set to debut on Netflix on September 27th, we felt it was essential to premiere it in Ogun State, where the story originated,”
He also shared his aspirations for developing a film village in Ogun State, which he believes will attract filmmakers and audiences to the region. Adedimeji added:
“We are building our own film village in Ogun State, and we hope to gain government support to further develop this project.
This initiative will bring entertainment to Ogun, showcase our local stories, and create opportunities for the community,”
