In a chilling turn of events, federal lawmaker Prince Henry Odianosen Okojie, representing Esan North-East/Esan South-East in Edo State, narrowly escaped a brazen assassination attempt that sent shockwaves through Uromi.
Okojie, who is married to Nollywood star actress Mercy Johnson, was reportedly ambushed by armed thugs suspected to have political motives, amidst build-up to the election in the state on Saturday, September 21.
The attackers reportedly stormed his residence in a Lexus GX 470, bearing Rivers State plates, in a bold move early Friday morning.
According to his media aide, Michael Ihaza, who broke the reports to newsmen , the ruthless assailants seemed poised to carry out their deadly mission, but quick-thinking security personnel assigned to Okojie acted swiftly, foiling the assassination plot just in time.
Prince Okojie’s media aide’s statement reads:
“The armed thugs who disguised as police officers along with two others, invaded the residence of Hon. Okojie, claimed to be on appointment and proceeded to the seating room.
“Following the intervention of the security personnel attached to the lawmaker, two of the armed thugs fled leaving behind the driver and another who are currently being interrogated by officers from the Area Command of the Nigeria Police Force, Uromi.
“The suspects have so far made a confessional statement stating that they were sent on the mission by People’s Democratic Party (PDP) leaders in Esan North East Local Government Area,”
Photos capturing the chaotic scene of the assassination attempt have also surfaced, quickly trending online.
The images show a crowded spectacle, with the tension and panic etched on the faces of those present, further highlighting the gravity of the attack.
