- The Civil Defence, Immigration and Prisons Service Board has suspended senior officials of the Nigerian Correctional Service over bribery allegations involving embattled crossdresser, Bobrisky.
- According to the press release, the suspension was to enable further investigation, assuring that the findings would be made public when concluded.
The Nigerian government has taken swift action against senior officials of the Nigerian Correctional Service, suspending several officers due to bribery allegations involving celebrity crossdresser Bobrisky.
The saga ensued when media personality and activist, VeryDarkMan accused EFCC officers of accepting ₦15 million from Bobrisky to drop money laundering charges.
Additionally, it was alleged that Bobrisky paid millions to secure favourable treatment in prison, adding to the help of his godfather.
In light of this, the FG ordered the suspension of some top prison officials to enable investigation into the matter. The statement signed by Ja’afaru Ahmed further assured that the outcome would be made public when concluded.
Officials suspended include: Michael Anugwa, Deputy Controller of Corrections at Kirikiri’s Medium Security Custodial Centre, Sikiru Adekunle, Deputy Controller of Corrections at Kirikiri’s Maximum-Security Custodial Centre, Ogbule Samuel Obinna, ASC II at Afikpo’s Medium Security Custodial Centre, accused of accompanying a convicted inmate outside the facility, Iloafonsi Kevin Ikechukwu, Deputy Controller of Corrections at Kuje-Abuja’s Medium Security Custodial Centre, accused of receiving monies on behalf of an inmate.
The statement read:
“CIVIL DEFENCE, CORRECTIONAL, FIRE AND IMMIGRATION SERVICES BOARD SUSPENDS ERRING OFFICERS OF THE NIGERIAN CORRECTIONAL SERVICE (NCOS)
Following the viral video trending on social media on alleged infractions by Officers of the Nigerian Correctional Service relating to Mr. Idris Okuneye, widely known as Bobrisky, the Civil Defence, Correctional, Fire and Immigration Services Board has suspended forthwith the following Senior Officers of the Service:
i. Michael Anugwa, Deputy Controller of Corrections (DCC), In-Charge of Medium Security Custodial Centre (MSCC), Kiri-kiri, Lagos State; and
ii. Sikiru Adekunle, Deputy Controller of Corrections (DCC), In-Charge of Maximum-Security Custodial Centre (MSCC), Kiri-kiri, Lagos State;
Also, the Board has suspended ASC II Ogbule Samuel Obinna, serving at the Medium Security Custodial Centre (MSCC), Afikpo, Ebonyi State, for allegedly accompanying a convicted inmate out of the Custodial Centre to a location outside the facility.
In another related development, the Board has equally suspended another Senior Officer of the Service, Iloafonsi Kevin Ikechukwu, Deputy Controller of Corrections (DCC), In-Charge of Medium Security Custodial Centre (MSCC), Kuje-Abuja, for allegedly receiving monies on behalf of an inmate.
The suspension of these Officers is to allow for further investigation on the various allegations while assuring that the outcome would be made public when concluded.
