Why Bishop Oyedepo deserves more Rolls Royces – Reno Omokri tackles critics

It is easy to point fingers at what seems like excess from the outside, but true wealth lies in the hearts of those who give willingly, without pressure, to someone who has shaped their faith and future. Reno Omokri's message is clear: Each Rolls Royce given reflects a story of growth, perseverance, and faith. It’s not about showing off; it’s about showing up for the one who has always shown up for them.

Reno Omokri, former presidential aide and political provocateur, has thrown himself into the eye of the storm surrounding the firestorm of backlash directed at Bishop David Oyedepo’s extravagant 70th birthday celebration.

This illustrious event, drenched in luxury and joy, culminated in a breathtaking moment that captured the public’s attention: a stunning white Rolls Royce Cullinans was ceremoniously gifted to the clergyman,

The criticism has been fierce and relentless. Notable figures, including actor Patrick Doyle, have slammed the lavish gift as shockingly insensitive, especially in a country where millions are grappling with an unforgiving economic crisis.

They averred that such ostentation is not just tone-deaf but borderline immoral, suggesting that the billions of naira spent on luxury cars could have been better directed towards initiatives that could genuinely improve the lives of those struggling to make ends meet.

However, in a dramatic counterattack, Omokri took to his Facebook page on September 28 to fiercely defend the actions of Oyedepo’s congregation.

Omokri argued passionately that the church members had every right to shower their spiritual leader with such opulence, framing it not as an act of excess but as a heartfelt expression of gratitude.

He emphatically stated that it is fundamentally unjust for outsiders to dictate how these devoted followers choose to honor their pastor, who has undeniably played a pivotal role in shaping their lives and fortunes.

Reno went further, insisting that Oyedepo deserves not just one but an abundance of Rolls Royces, given the extraordinary impact he has had on countless lives.

He wrote;

“People who complain that members of Living Faith Church are insensitive for buying Bishop Oyedepo a pair of Rolls Royce vehicles as a birthday present during these harsh economic times would have also criticised Yeshua (Jesus) for accepting the alabaster box of ointment that Mariam (Mary), the sister of Martha, bought for Him.

“But what was Yeshua’s response when Yehudah Scariota (Judas Iscariot) criticised Mary, and called for the perfume to be sold and the proceeds given to the poor?

“The poor you will always have with you, but you will not always have me.”-Matthew 26:11.

“If you feel so strongly about people experiencing poverty, then spend your money on feeding, housing and educating them. For your information, Bishop David Oyedepo, through Living Faith Church Worldwide, has a welfare budget for the poor that is larger than the social security budget of any state in Nigeria, except Lagos State.

“It is a form of pride to dictate to others how they should spend money you did not help them make. Why question their generosity to their pastor when you did not criticise their pastor for teaching them the principles that lifted them out of poverty?

“Oyedepo is not the past administration that brought us to this state. He deserves even more Rolls Royces!”
