- Following Bishop Oyedepo’s opulent 70th birthday, where his congregation gifted him luxurious cars and substantial cash donations, a storm of backlash has erupted.
- Critics are questioning how, in such a time of economic hardship, the church could justify such extravagant offerings.
- Many argue that these resources could have been better utilized to support the struggling masses, providing financial relief to those facing dire circumstances.
- The outrage has grown so loud that Pastor Adeboye recently waded into the controversy, addressing the moral conflict at the heart of it all
Pastor Enoch Adeboye, General Overseer of the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), has stirred the pot with a bold and unapologetic response to the controversy that erupted after Bishop David Oyedepo of Living Faith Church received jaw-dropping gifts during his 70th birthday.
The grand celebration, hosted at the church’s headquarters in Ota, Ogun State, had tongues wagging after reports surfaced that the Bishop was handed two Rolls Royces and a mind-boggling N1 billion cash gift from church members.
While the extravagance might have dazzled some, it left many Nigerians outraged, igniting a fierce backlash that swept through social media and public discourse.
Amidst this heated uproar, Pastor Adeboye, while addressing his congregation in new video, weighed in with a statement that sent shockwaves through the debate, challenging the status quo with unapologetic clarity.
He declared, without hesitation, that it’s better to die rich than poor.
Pastor Adeboye said:
“Someone gave a bishop a car and some people got very upset that how can a bishop be driving a Rolls Royce? As if once you are a bishop you must die of hunger.
“Let me tell you my beloved children, if you die poor they will blame you; they will say after all these days of you serving God this is how you end? If you can’t pay your rent, they will say where is your God?
“If all of a sudden you start riding a Rolls Royce they will attack you, so which of the two do you choose? They are going to attack you anyway, whether you die of poverty or you live in abundance.”
