The family of Nollywood’s late movie veteran, Ayobami Olabiyi, has broken their silence, unveiling the heart-wrenching details of the events leading up to his tragic death.
On October 16, 2024, Nollywood was dealt a devastating blow when the news of Olabiyi’s passing after a brief illness hit the public, leaving fans and colleagues in a state of disbelief.
WITHIN NIGERIA had earlier reported that Olabiyi was scheduled to join a movie set in Oyo last month. However, when the time came, the actor—renowned for his dedication to his craft—was nowhere to be found.
It soon surfaced that Olabiyi had been battling a severe illness that kept him confined to a hospital bed, far from the world of film that he so loved.
He was alleged to be admitted to the University College Hospital in Ibadan, Oyo, unable to speak or even move for an agonizingly long period as his health deteriorated.
In a recent interview, one of Olabiyi’s relatives detailed the devastating progression of his illness. According to the family member, Olabiyi had initially developed a leg infection three months prior, a seemingly minor issue that soon escalated.
According to him, despite being urged to seek treatment at the University College Hospital, where he spent nearly two months receiving intensive care, the actor’s condition continued to worsen.
The family member said doctors prescribed regular follow-up treatments, but the actor, known for his resilience, struggled to maintain the frequent trips to the hospital due to the far distance.
