- Ayra Starr said she has very high standards for dating, which will be hard for any man to meet.
- She said she was grateful that she didn’t start dating before hitting stardom.
Afrobeats artist Oyinkansola Sarah Aderibigbe, known professionally as Ayra Starr, has opened up about her approach to dating and the factors that have influenced her current single status.
Ayra Starr acknowledged that At just 22, her expectations for relationships are quite elevated, making it challenging for potential partners to meet those criteria.
In a conversation with Coco Jones for Rolling Stone’s “Musicians on Musicians“, she expressed gratitude for not engaging in dating before her rise to fame.
“I’m so happy I wasn’t really dating before I started music. I didn’t really know what I was missing. So now that I waited this long to date people, I have very high standards. If it’s gonna be hard to meet it, it’s gonna be bye-bye. But also, I don’t have time for myself, talk less of a boy,” she said.
Ayra Starr had earlier revealed that she has never fallen in love.
The Grammy-nominated Afrobeats star spoke about her love life in a recent interview with Dazed Magazine.
Ayra Starr admitted that despite being identified as a “lover girl,” she has never been in a fully committed relationship.
The 21-year-old Mavin Records sensation, also attributed her single status to her intense focus on music since age 15. Ayra Starr said:
“I want to fall in love. I wrote ‘Lagos Love Story’ about what love would look like if I was. I am a lover girl deep in my heart, I’m just very strong headed about it. I actually have never been in love. I have been in certain situations – not situationships! – but I have never been in a fully committed relationship.”
“I’ve put myself out there and I’ve tried to see what’s there but I don’t think I’ve had the time. I’ve been working since I was 15, I was modelling, I was doing university, and now I’m on the road.
“It’s me just enjoying myself as a girl. I’m like, let me sing to a cute boy today and I’m looking around because I can – why not?”
