Why I went bald again 15 years after – Yvonne Jegede responds to criticism
  • It’s no news that Yvonne Jegede took social media by storm after sharing photos of her bald head.
  • The actress further revealed that she made the decision because a movie role called for it.
  • Rather than an applause, many berated her for her chopping off her hair, pushing Yvonne Jegede to respond to the backlash that has trailed her choice.

In light of the recent happenings in Nollywood, actor and filmmaker, Yvonne Jegede, in an Instagram post announced her decision to cut her hair for a role in the 2024 movie Aja.

While some consider this rather extreme, Yvonne Jegede has hinged on the idea that it is quite impressive to witness the lengths one can go for their craft.

Taking to her Instagram page minutes ago on Tuesday morning, Yvonne Jegede recalled going bald 15 years ago, adding that she chose to do it again because she is not an actress who only goes for “champagne” roles and is more concerned about looks.

The movie star added that she loves risky movie roles and cutting her hair is a daring choice she made.

Speaking on the movie, Yvonne said while she is blessed with great hair, the script captured her attention and she found it deserving of her sacrifice. Sharing throwback photos of her bald head when she was 23 and a more recent one, the actress wrote:

“Fifteen years ago, I took the bold step of going completely bald. I’ve always been known for daring choices with my hair, and maybe that’s because I’m blessed with great hair. #Aja #AjaTheMovie demanded a transformation – not just for the money $, but because of @lopeorire (the brilliant Writer/Producer) whose talent is unmatched.

I’m not one for “champagne” roles that are all about looks; the riskier, the more I’m drawn in. I was on the phone with @Officialsamolatunji1 (my manager) every day, telling him I HAD to be in this film because the story captivated me.

When this movie drops on streaming platforms, expect to see me front and center! I’m immensely proud of this project – NOTHING like what’s out there. This film will spark debates, and that’s exactly why I poured everything into this role.

Thank you for all the support, and I know you’re going to love #Aja.

This project is my baby – forget that Titi Orire owns it; it’s MINE.

Yvonne Jegede is every director’s dream and every producer’s delight – no stress on set, and all in for promotion.”
