How my step-mum inspired use of signature Yoruba proverbs in my music – 9ice

I am not herbalist – 9ice clarifies misconception

Multi talented Nigerian singer, songwriter and record label boss, Akande Abolore popularly known as 9ice has clarified misconceptions surrounding his songs’ frequent use of Yoruba proverbs.

The talented and versatile singer is known for his signature use of Yoruba proverbs in all his songs.

Clarifying some rumours about his knowledge of proverbs being because he is an herbalist, 9ice denied the claim.

In a chat with content creator Bae U, the ‘Gongo Aso’ hitmaker said his late stepmother heavily influenced his use of Yoruba proverbs in his music.

In 9ice’s words:

“I am not an herbalist. I am a Yoruba man from Oyo state, and I learnt all the proverbs from my late stepmum. While trying to create songs, I decided to use all those.”
