- Miami Beach Mayor, Steven Meiner unanimously revoked Diddy’s honor during an in-person hearing last week.
- The city cut ties with the embattled American rapper following a series of lawsuits filed against him.
The city of Miami Beach has reexamined its honorary gesture and officially revoked the Key to the City awarded to singer Diddy.
This decision comes amid ongoing legal challenges and allegations surrounding the American rapper.
In a unanimous decision, Miami Beach Mayor, Steven Meiner stripped Diddy of the honor during an in-person hearing.
This move marks a reversal of the ceremonial key presented to Diddy in 2015, recognizing his contributions to the music industry and his role in organizing the Revolt Music Conference in Miami Beach.
Diddy is currently facing charges for sex trafficking and racketeering.
He was recently arrested in New York and jailed ahead of sex crime trials.
The arrest followed a grand jury indictment, with Combs’ lawyer, Marc Agnifilo, expressing disappointment and criticism towards the US Attorney’s Office for pursuing what he considers an unjust prosecution.
Agnifilo highlighted Sean Combs’ voluntary cooperation with the investigation and his decision to travel to New York in anticipation of the charges.
In a statement, Agnifilo described Combs as a respected figure in the music industry and a devoted philanthropist, emphasizing his client’s innocence.
Agnifilo stated that Combs looks forward to clearing his name in court, maintaining that his actions demonstrate those of an innocent individual.
“We are disappointed with the decision to pursue what we believe is an unjust prosecution of Combs by the U.S. Attorney’s Office.
“Sean Combs is a music icon, a loving family man, self-made entrepreneur and proven philanthropist who has spent the last 30 years building an empire and working to uplift the Black community.
“He is an imperfect person, but he is not a criminal. To his credit Mr. Combs has been cooperative with this investigation and he voluntarily relocated to New York a week ago in anticipation of these charges.
“These are the acts of an innocent man and he looks forward to clearing his name in court,” he said.
