- In a deeply revealing interview, Kanayo O Kanayo pulls back the curtain on his unwavering support for Peter Obi during the presidential election, outlined the powerful qualities that made him stand out as a true leader.
- With raw honesty, the actor paints a vivid picture of Obi’s unlikely, yet profound, allegiance to the Igbos, stressing that his presidency would have been a game-changer.
- He also fearlessly contrasts Obi’s visionary leadership with the entrenched, self-serving styles of Tinubu and Buhari, exposing the stark differences in their approaches to governance.
Veteran actor, Kanayo O Kanayo, recently made some cutting remarks that have set tongues wagging, giving a bold, unfiltered take on how Igbo land would have fared had Peter Obi, the Anambra-born politician and Labour Party’s presidential candidate, won the 2023 election.
In a no-holds-barred appearance on the Leadership Podcast, hosted by media personality Stephen Akintayo, Kanayo delivered a scorching critique of Nigeria’s political landscape, pulling no punches in his candid assessment of Obi’s potential presidency and its impact on the Igbo people.
Kanayo’s words were sharp and unapologetic as he revealed that, despite Obi’s selfless reputation, the Igbo people would have faced even harsher realities under his leadership. According to Kanayo, Obi’s primary concern has always been the greater good of the nation, not the interests of his own tribe.
In fact, Kanayo boldly stated that Obi, in his view, despite his Igbo roots, would have been more accommodating to other ethnic groups, including the Hausas and Yorubas, than to his own people.
The veteran actor went further to recount his personal interactions with Obi, which left a lasting impression on him. This, and more reasons, Kanayo argued, was one of the major reasons he supported Obi in the 2023 election.
Kanayo didn’t hesitate to sharply contrast Obi’s potential presidency with the leadership of both Bola Tinubu and Muhammadu Buhari.
In his words:
“If Peter Obi had become president, Igbo Land would have suffered more because he looks at what will benefit Nigerians and not what will benefit the Igbo’s.
“You know, when I’m talking about Peter Obi, I’m not talking about him as an Igbo Man; I talk about him as somebody who has been to my house on three different occasions in the village; he would rather sacrifice his comfort to make sure somebody from the North has something; he would rather sacrifice his personal money for somebody from the South West, and so on.”
“If you have a relationship with such a person, you will push his cards and say let this one go; your friends will even deny you of what you are supposed to get.
“I’m not saying that President Asiwaju Ahmed Bola Tinubu doesn’t have a large heart; he’s very generous, but generous to the extent that you will forget about what happened in 2023 and say I’m now the President of Nigeria, unlike Buhari, who said, ‘I will first of all remember 97 percent rather than the 5 percent.’
“When you speak like that, then you are now the President of Northern Nigeria and not the President of Nigeria,”
