- Pastor Olumide challenges the traditional view of submission in marriage, stating that it should be a mutual responsibility between both partners, not just a woman’s obligation.
- The pastor highlights the importance of following kingdom principles in Christian marriages, rather than adhering to cultural expectations that position men as the sole decision-makers.
- He encourages men to value and respect their wives’ perspectives, stating that listening to their wives can prevent many challenges in marriage.
- He also urges younger men not to adopt the traditional mindset that only men are the decision-makers, calling marriage a “kingdom culture” instead of an “African culture.”
Pastor Olumide Emmanuel has sparked a conversation online about the roles of men and women in marriage, advocating for mutual submission and urging men to also submit to their wives.
The pastor emphasized that submission should not be viewed as a one-sided duty for women, but as a shared responsibility in Christian marriages.
In his message, Pastor Emmanuel explained that Christian marriages should follow kingdom principles rather than cultural norms.
He encouraged men to honor their wives’ perspectives and recognize the value of their insights.
“Men, I will tell you for free, respect a woman’s sensitivity if you want to do well in life. Ask any married man that will be honest with you—there are things that if we did not listen to our wives, we’d be in trouble by now. And there are times we didn’t listen, and we entered trouble,” he said.
Pastor Emmanuel also challenged the cultural mindset that positions men as the sole decision-makers in the household.
He advised younger individuals to reject the traditional “man of the house” mentality, asserting, “Marriage is not an African culture—it’s a kingdom culture.”
“Don’t let Africa kill you with the ‘I’m a man of this house’ mentality. Marriage is not an African culture—it’s a kingdom culture. The Bible says, ‘submitting yourselves one to another.’ Mutual submission is a kingdom agenda for marriage. So, there are times you need to submit to your wife,” he added.
