Actor Ibrahim Yekini popularly known as Itele d Icon has responded to fans who have been critical of his recent support for singer Wizkid.
The movie actor has been quite vocal with his support for Wizkid who recently dropped his long-awaited album, Morayo, days ago.
In a post shared on his official Instagram on Sunday, Itele addressed the backlash, sharing screenshots of some online comments where people mocked him for championing Wizkid’s music.
The actor urged his critics to stop attacking him for expressing his admiration for the singer, emphasising that those who truly know him understand that he always shows his love for things or people openly.
He explained that for now, Wizkid happens to be his favourite artiste. Itele wrote:
“I’ve noticed some reactions lately because I’ve been posting Wizkid’s music. To those who feel upset, I want to say this: we shouldn’t attack each other just because I chose my favorite artist.
“If you know me well, you’ll understand that this is my style. I love something or someone, and I show it openly. That’s how I believe love should be expressed,”
He also reassured his genuine supporters, stating that he frequently shares various artistes songs on his page as part of his expression of what inspires him.
He pleaded with fans not to turn against him for his new-found admiration for Wizkid. Itele added:
“For my true supporters, you’ll know that I often use different music on my page, and it’s always been about sharing what inspires me.
“So please, don’t dislike me for loving Wizkid! And don’t stop loving me for being true to myself. At the end of the day, it’s all about love and positivity. Let’s spread more of that.”
The post concluded with Itele inviting his followers to check the next slide, which contained the screenshots of the critical comments.
In recent days, the actor has been actively promoting Wizkid’s music on his Instagram, much to the displeasure of some of his followers, who aren’t fans of the singer.
Some of these followers even threatened to stop watching his movies.
This comes after a similar incident in which Afrobeat singer Tiwa Savage hit back at Wizkid fans who criticised her for releasing a song on the same day as Wizkid’s.
Tiwa called them “bullies” for trolling her while she was simply trying to promote her music.
