Yemi Solade reacts with fury to ‘gay’ backlash trailing his loved-up video with colleague Apa

By hitting back so fiercely, what Yemi demonstrated in that moment was that no amount of criticism could erase his right to be true to his craft, to his art, and to himself, because, at its core, acting is meant to reflect the messiness and beauty of real life.

Nollywood actors Yemi Solade and Sanusi Izihaq, better known as Apa, found themselves caught in the fiery grip of controversy after what was supposed to be a simple movie promotion ignited an explosive backlash.

The drama kicked off when their colleague, Rotimi Salami, who has been relentlessly promoting his new movie, 5 Alive, shared a video on Instagram.

The clip featured Yemi and Apa in what appeared to be an intimate scene between two male lovers. Yemi, in particular, took center stage, showing a level of affection rarely seen on screen—pecking Apa on the cheek, holding him close in a tight embrace.

While the scene was meant to highlight the actors’ chemistry and the depth of their characters, it instead set social media on fire.

Many Netizens were deeply uncomfortable with the intimate portrayal of two men in love, with some accusing the actors of attempting to introduce gay scenes into Nollywood.

The backlash was swift and brutal, with critics blasting the actors for what they saw as an attempt to normalize homosexuality in an industry that has been largely conservative.

One particular troll, whose words went beyond criticism into outright personal insults, took to social media with venomous remarks.

This was the breaking point for Yemi Solade, who had clearly had enough of the online vitriol.

His response was nothing short of savage. In a fiery tirade, Yemi went straight for the jugular, insulting the troll’s father in a brutal exchange that stunned everyone.
