Barking at Davido won’t fix Nigeria – Ruggedman

Economy is shambles: Ruggedman pitches tent with Davido

Veteran rapper, Michael Ugochukwu Stephens, famously known as Ruggedman, has slammed those criticising afrobeats singer, Davido, over his comment on the Nigerian economy.

For days, Davido has been under heavy fire after warning African American citizens against contemplating relocation to Africa, especially Nigeria, saying the country’s economy is in “shambles” in a recent podcast interview.

Davido disclosed that the entertainment industry is what is making Africa look pleasant to the eyes, a situation which he described as a “smokescreen” masking deeper issues. In Davido’s words:

“It’s not cool back home. The economy now is in shambles.”

We Nigerians, the exchange rate is messed up, the oil prices is too high. Imagine a country producing oil and we are paying more for oil than countries importing it. We do not have the best leaders, and that is a fact.”

Reacting, Ruggedman said Davido’s comment was on point.

He urged the government to fix the economy so that no one would make similar comments in the future.

He pointed out that criticising Davido isn’t fixing the country, stressing that the hardship is unbearable.

On his X handle, the rapper wrote, “Ok Davido has said what he said, moving forward the government should fix Nigeria so nobody will say such again. All this barking all over the place is not fixing the nation.
The hardship is too much.”

Hours ago, singer Davido shared a photo of himself wearing a green and white clothing item matching the Nigerian flag on his head.

This comes amid backlash over his remarks about Nigeria’s economy being in shambles.

Davido said he plans to carry the nation on his head, hence his outfit choice.
