Davido rocks Nigerian colours to fresh interview amid outcry over economic comment

Davido reacts to public backlash over his recent interview

Famous Nigerian Afrobeat singer David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has responded to recent criticism from Nigerians by showing his love for the country in his latest public appearance.

Taking to his X account (formerly Twitter), Davido shared a photo of himself donning a green-and-white durag, symbolizing the Nigerian flag, while flashing a confident smile.

The father of five accompanied the image with a message aimed at his critics, stating he was headed to an interview while proudly representing Nigeria.

“I Dey go do interview nw … fully representing . Say make I kuku put am for head,” he tweeted, playfully addressing those who accused him of not fully embracing his Nigerian identity in previous statements.

The post comes after Davido faced backlash over comments made during a recent interview about Africa’s economic struggles.

In the interview, he advised Black Americans to reconsider relocating to Africa, cautioning them about the continent’s economic challenges.

While stressing that his intent was not to tarnish Africa’s image, he noted that his aim was to highlight its brighter aspects rather than the struggles.

His statements stirred a heated debate online, with prominent figures such as Reno Omokri and Patrick Doyle joining Nigerians in criticizing the singer.
