Nigerian actor Nonso Diobi has shared the story of how he landed his first major role in Nollywood.
According to Nonso Diobi, his physical resemblance to veteran actress Hilda Dokubo played a significant role in securing the opportunity.
Nonso Diobi recalled attending an audition where Dokubo noticed him and suggested to the director that he be cast as her brother in the film due to their similar appearance. This chance encounter ultimately led to his first movie role after a lengthy period of auditioning.
Nonso Diobi reflected on the experience, stating that Hilda Dokubo’s observation of their resemblance led to him being offered the role without even auditioning for it.
Speaking in a recent episode of the ‘Nollywood Hardcore’ podcast, Nonso Diobi said:
“Back to the story of how I got my first movie role. I was at an audition and I started hearing people calling me from afar. I approached. Before I could get close to them, Hilda Dokubo said, ‘This young boy looks like me. He can play my brother.’
“That was how I finally got my first role after three years and more than 1000 auditions. I didn’t even audition for it.”

According to him, he left the movie scene to brush up his knowledge in acting. He unveiled his future plans as an Actor, Filmmaker and movie director.
