Nigeria doesn’t have true democracy – Davido
  • Davido stated that unlike the United States of America, Nigeria lacks true democracy.
  • Davido explained that he congratulated Donald Trump after his electoral victory despite voting for his opponent, Kamala Harris of the Democratic Party because he believes in American democracy.

Afrobeats singer David Adeleke, popularly known as Davido, has shared his thoughts on democracy in Nigeria compared to the United States.

During his appearance on The Morning Hustle podcast, Davido expressed his admiration for the democratic system in the US, highlighting the peaceful transfer of power and the respect for the electoral process.

Davido cited his experience during the US presidential election, where he voted for Kamala Harris but still congratulated Donald Trump on his victory. This, he believes, demonstrates his faith in the American democratic system.

In contrast, Davido stated that Nigeria lacks true democracy, emphasizing the differences between the two countries’ political systems.

He said:

“I congratulated Donald Trump. That’s the president! What are you talking about? If I were running against him, I would still have congratulated him.

“What I like about America is that there’s true democracy. Where I come from [Nigeria], it’s not so.

“To be honest, I voted for Kamala Harris because I wanted to see the first female president in my generation. That would have been cool.”

Davido also talked about his marriage, he revealed that If it wasn’t for his wife Chioma, he wouldn’t have gotten married.

The singer disclosed that without Chioma, marriage would never have been on the cards for him.

Davido described his wedding day as the happiest moment of his life.

Reflecting on their long-term relationship, he said:

“My wedding was the happiest day of my life. Chioma has been my girl for 12 years so it was only right I married her. I was already famous before we met but I wasn’t big then.

“If it wasn’t her [Chioma], I’m not getting married. There’s no point.”
