I’m first African artiste to receive BET award on stage, not Davido – Ice Prince clarifies
  • Ice Prince has revealed he is the first African artiste to receive BET award on stage.
  • The rapper made the disclosure during a recent interview while speaking on his personal experience as well as his achievements.
  • Ice Prince clarified that while many believe Davido is the first African artiste to receive the award on stage, the notion is wrong.

Popular Nigerian rapper cum singer, Panshak Zamani, better known as Ice Prince has clarified that he and not Davido, is the first African artiste to receive a BET on stage at the award ceremony.

Recall that until recent years, African artistes were previously awarded backstage at the BET award ceremony.

In a recent episode of ‘Listening’, Ice Prince, who won the Best International Act, Africa Award in 2013, claimed that he was the one who broke the jinx, not Davido, who was mistakenly credited by fans.

“I am the first African artiste to go on a BET stage and receive an award solo… When you guys talk about it, you guys give that credit to Davido,” he said.

Davido captured attention with his acceptance speech at the BET Awards in 2018 after winning the Best International Act award.

During the speech, he called for greater collaborations between US and African musicians.

Ice Prince

Ice Prince in the same interview opened up on his harrowing prison experience. In September 2022, a Lagos State magistrate court remanded the singer to the Ikoyi Correctional Centre for allegedly assaulting a police officer.

He regained his freedom after fulfilling his bail conditions, but that was not after spending almost a week in jail.

Speaking about the experience on the latest episode of the ‘Listen’ podcast, Ice Prince Zamani said going to jail was a horrible experience, adding that he wasn’t given preferential treatment despite his celebrity status.

On what led him to prison, Ice Prince claimed he was only joking with the police officer he allegedly assaulted when he drove off after the officer entered his car during a stop-and-search operation
