Bovi makes U-Turn, apologizes for comments on parenting
  • Bovi encouraged people to train their children however way they feel like
  • He maintained that his father did not beat him physically and he is not going to do same to his children.

Nigerian comedian and actor Bovi Ugbomma has revisited his previous statements on parenting, offering an apology for his comments on gentle parenting.

In a recent podcast appearance, Bovi had shared his approach to parenting, which emphasizes a non-punitive approach to discipline.

During the podcast, Bovi mentioned that he does not physically discipline his children, and shared a story about his son’s behavior.

However, his comments sparked a heated debate online, with some critics accusing him of promoting a permissive parenting style that may not be effective in teaching children self-control.

In response to the backlash, Bovi took to social media to apologize for any offense his comments may have caused.

He clarified that his intention was not to dictate how others should parent, but rather to share his own experiences and approach to parenting.

Bovi also emphasized that his own upbringing did not involve physical punishment, and that he is committed to raising his children in a similar manner.

He wrote:

“I don go trigger angry people because of the phrase I used . “For the fun of it”. Make una no vex. In trying to color my point, I’ve offended a shallow mob. You don’t have to agree with me. If you have children you want to beat, enjoy. My papa no physically beat me and I turned out almost ok.”

The debate surrounding Bovi’s comments continues, with many weighing in on the merits and drawbacks of gentle parenting.

@Neduzzy said, “Breaking tv 3 times is sure sign that you have failed in whatever you are doing in the name of training your child. That’s a high level of anger issues”

Another tweep, @winnerbennaba, wrote, “I’m glad you acknowledge that you “turned out almost ok”. Apparently, you’re not totally okay.”

@DamilareOdulesi stated, “Except what you said in that podcast was another comedy talk, allowing your kids to keep misbehaving because they are kids is absolutely out of it.

If you think that’s the right way to go, that’s your opinion. But for public sanity, we will correct an erroneous opinion.”
