Queen Naomi’s flyer for Children’s funfair prior to Ibadan Stampede goes viral

Queen Naomi's children funfair turned out to be a nightmare

A children’s funfair organized by Queen Naomi Silekunola, the ex-wife of the Ooni of Ife, Oba Adeyeye Enitan Ogunwusi, ended in tragedy.

The event, which was intended to bring joy to children, turned disastrous when a stampede occurred, resulting in the loss of over 30 young lives.

According to eyewitnesses, the venue was overcrowded, with approximately 7,500 people in attendance, despite the organizers’ initial plan to cater to 5,000 individuals. The crowd was attracted by the promise of free food and other items, which led to a chaotic scramble for resources.

In the days leading up to the event, Queen Naomi had promoted the funfair on social media, sharing a poster with details about the celebration. However, the excitement and anticipation surrounding the event were tragically short-lived.

Sharing the flyer, she wrote:

“Every year, we have been consistent with our commitment to kids; mostly the underprivileged.
We have shared our love from town to town, and this year is not about to be an exception. With gladness, I hereby announce on behalf of every member of WINGS FOUNDATION both home and abroad that this year’s edition, we ride on Eagle’s wings to IBADAN CITY 💃💃💃💃💃IBADAN ARE YOU READY!”

The news of the stampede and the resulting fatalities has sparked widespread outrage and sympathy on social media. While some Nigerians have expressed condolences to Queen Naomi and the families of the victims, others have directed their anger towards the current government, blaming them for the poverty and hunger that drove the crowd to desperation.
