Brazilian composer accuses Adele of plagiarism, court orders song to be taken down

A Brazilian court has issued an order for the removal of Adele’s 2015 hit song ‘Million Years Ago’ from all global streaming platforms and radio, following a copyright dispute.

The ruling came after Brazilian composer Toninho Geraes accused the British singer of copying elements from his 1996 song ‘Mulheres’, performed by renowned Brazilian artist Martinho da Vila.

Geraes claims that the melody and structure of Adele’s song closely resemble his track from the 1995 album ‘Mulheres’.

In his lawsuit, Geraes is demanding $160,000 in moral damages, along with a songwriting credit for ‘Million Years Ago’.
