Biola Bayo reacts as Gov Adeleke pardons man sentenced to death for fowl theft, 52 other convicts

Osun governor pardons man sentenced to death for stealing fowl

Nigerian actress Biola Bayo has expressed gratitude to Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke for granting pardon to Segun Olowookere and Sunday Morakinyo, who were convicted for stealing a fowl, among other crimes.

In an Instagram post on Thursday, December 26, Biola Bayo shared a screenshot of the governor’s statement and commended him for his act of mercy.

She wrote, in part:

“AND GRACE WAS EXTENDED TO 52 OTHER PRISONERS 💃💃 Thank you so much your excellency @aadeleke_01.”

Olowookere, who was 17 at the time of his arrest in November 2010, was sentenced to death in December 2014 by an Osun State High Court.

He was found guilty of conspiracy to commit armed robbery, robbery, and theft.

The case gained public attention after Olowookere’s mother appeared on Biola Adebayo’s Talk to B podcast, where she made an emotional plea for mercy for her son.

The appeal sparked widespread social media support, leading Governor Adeleke to intervene.

Last week, the governor directed the state attorney general to investigate the case and begin the process of granting Olowookere clemency.

On Thursday, Adeleke announced the pardon of 53 convicts, including Olowookere and three others convicted of capital offences.

The statement partly read: “In line with the recommendations of the State Advisory Council on Prerogative of Mercy, Governor Ademola Adeleke has exercised the prerogative of mercy towards 53 convicts serving various convictions within the Nigerian Correctional Service.”
