I didn’t compose ‘Odun nlo sopin’ – Gospel music veteran Deborah Fasoyin speaks in new clip

She attributed the success of her choir’s recording not to their ingenuity but to their obedience in amplifying a hymn that already carried the heartbeat of a people’s faith, underscoring her commitment to preserving and honoring the legacy of gospel music as a shared spiritual expression

I didn’t compose ‘Odun nlo sopin’ – Gospel music veteran Deborah Fasoyin speaks in new clip
  • The iconic song “Odun Lo Sopin” has cemented its place as a timeless prayer point during the festive season, a melody that echoes through homes, churches, and hearts as the year winds to an end.
  • Widely credited to Deborah Fasoyin, the celebrated lead singer of her legendary gospel group, the song has long been regarded as her masterpiece—a divine offering of gratitude and hope.
  • But in a recent, eye-opening interview, Fasoyin pulled back the veil on the song’s true origins, shattering assumptions held for decades.

Gospel music legend Mrs. Deborah Fasoyin, celebrated for bringing the iconic song “Odun Lo Sopin” to global prominence, has made a startling revelation about the origins of the timeless track.

The song, which has become a cherished anthem for end-of-year gatherings, holds a special place in the hearts of millions. Its heartfelt lyrics and melody evoke profound prayers for divine protection, guidance, and provision, offering comfort and hope as one year closes and another begins.

Popularized by Fasoyin and her choir, it has transcended generations, cementing itself as an indispensable part of festive traditions.

Speaking with heartfelt honesty in new interview, Fasoyin explained that “Odun Lo Sopin” was not an original composition by her or her choir but a deeply rooted hymn already woven into the fabric of Christ Apostolic Church (CAC) worship traditions.

She emphasized that the song was widely known and cherished in CAC congregations long before her choir’s version immortalized it as a national and cultural treasure.

According to Fasoyin, her choir’s role in 1979 was to capture the essence of this sacred hymn and present it in a formal recording that could reach a broader audience.

Their rendition, marked by its harmonious delivery and profound spiritual resonance, transformed “Odun Lo Sopin” from a cherished church hymn into a global anthem of hope and prayer, celebrated by millions as a staple of end-of-year reflections.
