Tension looms as Nollywood actor, Timini Egbuson counters film director, Biodun Stephen’s over a recent post.
Taking to Instagram on Thursday afternoon, 9th January, the veteran film director launched an appeal where she encouraged her YouTube audience to not only engage or watch movies that incorporate their faves but also watch good films with less popular faces as long as it’s worth it.
She spoke on how plan nurture and bring up new faces in the industry but complained about the tendency of viewers to skip movies like such simply because their faves aren’t included.
She wrote:
“YOUTUBE audience, i salute you. Can I beg you for something this new year.
Producers need to help new actors and youtube is the one place we are able to introduce new faces. We can’t do that if you only clock on the films that carry your favs. You need to add to your favs and the only way is if you give that film a chance. 2025, help us discover new stars
I started my career, introducing and building
new stars. I want to do that with YouTube, but my darling audience won’t give the film
a chance. This 2025, i want to help new
people but I can’t do that if you don’t watch my films Because business must thrive afterall.
So here is my appeal. Trust that l’ll bring solid actor who will act their pants off. Trust that the story will STORY. Can I trust that you will watch it?? Very easy to say yes, but how can get commitment from you. I want to build new stars but I need you to trust me
Youtube Audience, I salute.”
In a subsequent post, she made a controversial appeal to a set of industrial folks she described as YouTube Actors.
She wrote:
“Youtube Actors… Please breathe inhale… exhale…
Don’t suffocate us. Usually not one to do this but guys.. calm down.
These figures are no longer funny.”
Reacting to the post, Timini Egbuson expressed his disapproval and swiftly countered her.
“What’s a YouTube actor? An actor is an actor,” Timini wrote.
Biodun Stephen took down the post afterwards, citing the fact that she was misunderstood.
