Bolaji Ogunmola addresses criticism trailing kissing scene with Daniel Etim-Effiong

Why kissing scene was necessary – Bolaji Ogunmola

Nigerian actress Bolaji Ogunmola has reacted to the controversy that followed the kiss between herself and Daniel Etim-Effiong in the promotional video for their new movie.

On January 9, 2024, the promotional video for the romantic movie Summer Rain was released on social media, and in the 5-second clip, Daniel was seen kissing his co-star.

The singular action sparked reactions from social media users who expressed their disapproval of the kiss and highlighted his marriage to Media personality Toyosi.

As a result of the kiss, the pair faced some backlash online, and Toyosi began to trend on X because of the video. However, amid the backlash, Bolaji Ogunmola spoke up on X to shed some light on the situation.

According to her, the scene is necessary because the character is a man stupendously in love with his woman and portrayed it. She wrote:

“Promotional shoot/ content is part of an actor’s contractual obligations. Were there cameras there? Yes.. tons of people there? Yes. Was he there as a husband no… he’s an ACTOR playing a character called adimchi who’s ridiculously in love with murewa. Was he professional yes!”

On the essentiality of the kissing scene, the actress emphasized how she is a lover girl who grew up watching romantic movies that had actors with good chemistry. Speaking on her intentions to recreate such sweet memories, Bolaji Ogunmola wrote:

“Grew up watching those crazy cheesy love stories Both abroad and in Nigeria… The ones where Genevieve will fall in love with Emeka Ike and there’s nothing anyone would tell me, I believed it was the realest thing ever. Their love story was so pure and ridiculously gooood. Creating this project, I wanted a representation of a great love story so gooood and so pure and yes cheesy but very much in tune with today’s world. I am a bonafied lover girl and SUMMER RAIN is that film!!!! Feburary 7th let’s celebrate love.“
