Nollywood actress Omoni Oboli has sparked outrage on social media over copyright infringement claims involving another movie on the streaming platform, YouTube.
Just recently, the film star released a movie called A Different Type of Love on her YouTube channel. However, it was soon discovered that it had the same storyline as another movie titled Hope Given.
Social media started buzzing with talks about the situation, and Omoni Oboli took her Instagram page to clear the air.
According to the filmmaker, her film, A Different Type of Love, has been taken down from YouTube after getting feedback about its striking resemblance with another movie.
Explaining further, Omoni stated that she had engaged the services of a scriptwriter for the film, and investigations are underway to determine what happened. In her words:
“I apologize besties.”
“Dear besties,
”We know you’re probably wondering why the latest movie isn’t available anymore on the channel. We’ve received feedback that it bears a striking resemblance to another film on YouTube. As a channel committed to originality, we’ve decided to remove the movie while we investigate the situation. We’ve engaged the scriptwriter to understand exactly what happened and are working closely with our legal team to resolve this. Thank you for your understanding and continued support. Always remember that I love you ❤️.”
Omoni Oboli’s situation has drawn a series of comments from netizens. Several of them blamed the scriptwriter and encouraged the actress to take legal action, while others blamed Omoni for not doing her due diligence. See screenshot of Omoni’s post and some reactions below:

greyneration wrote: why are script writers selling stories that have already been produced? This is one of the reasons we have mediocre films on YouTube. Everyone wants to make money! Omoni should sue cos her resources have been wasted and please always do ur due diligence before buying scripts.
Oyeladefrancess wrote: The gist is, these producers buy scripts from script writers and this one Omoni bought, the script writing agency’s employee sold an already used script to her. The script writing company has fired the babe that did it sha, and they are taking legal actions.
Eke_fachi wrote: This will be the second time Omoni Oboli will be involved in a copyright infringement mess (publicly anyway because we don’t know of others, if any that didn’t make it to social media) My counsel is that she needs to be wary of the people she works with especially for scripts.
