Video of Pastor Iluyomade launching new church causes a stir following RCCG suspension, exit

Whether this move will solidify his legacy or invite further scrutiny remains to be seen, but one thing is clear: Pastor Iluyomade appears ready to write the next chapter of his legacy on his terms, leaving many eager to see how his journey unfolds.

Former senior pastor of the City of David Parish under the Redeemed Christian Church of God (RCCG), Idowu Iluyomade, has officially stepped into a new phase of his ministry by launching his own church in the upscale Victoria Island area of Lagos.

This significant move has not only captured attention but also reignited conversations about the circumstances surrounding his exit from RCCG.

On Sunday, January 19, videos from Pastor Iluyomade’s new church, aptly named “Family Fellowship,” began circulating on social media, showcasing the former RCCG heavyweight in a celebratory mood.

In the clips, Iluyomade was seen joyfully dancing alongside members of his new congregation, their infectious energy creating a wave of reactions online. The service radiated an air of renewal and hope, signaling the pastor’s intention to build a ministry focused on gratitude, unity, and faith.

Interestingly, the notable absence of his wife, Siju Iluyomade, in the viral videos has sparked curiosity among observers.

Her absence, coupled with his new church launch adds another layer of intrigue, considering the pivotal role she played in the controversy that led to Iluyomade’s eventual suspension from RCCG.

The journey to this point has been anything but smooth for Pastor Iluyomade. In 2024, his leadership of the prestigious City of David Parish came under fire following public backlash over his wife’s extravagant 60th birthday celebration.

The lavish event, held just days after the tragic passing of Herbert Wigwe—a prominent member of the church and respected Nigerian businessman—was met with widespread criticism. Many accused the Iluyomades of insensitivity, a sentiment that triggered unrest among church members and the wider public.

In June 2024, the RCCG Governing Council responded by suspending Iluyomade for three months, replacing him with Pastor Charles Kpandei of RCCG Resurrection Parish.

Later that year, Pastor Kayode Pitan was permanently appointed to oversee the City of David Parish, effectively closing the chapter on Iluyomade’s tenure with RCCG.
