- A French woman recently raised an alarm after falling victim to a sophisticated scam involving the use of a “Brad Pitt” persona, leaving her emotionally and financially devastated.
- Latest updates from ongoing investigations in France have uncovered shocking links to a group of Nigerian Yahoo boys, who are now being heavily scrutinized as prime suspects in orchestrating the elaborate fraud.
- In a dramatic twist, Verydarkman seized the opportunity to deliver a hard-hitting yet captivating message to Naija Yahoo boys, schooled them on the importance of financial wisdom.
Nigerian online activist Martins Vincent Otse, popularly known as Verydarkman (VDM), has added his voice to the explosive saga surrounding a 53-year-old French woman, Anne, who was conned out of her life savings—an eye-watering $850,000 (over ₦1.5 billion).
The scam, which involved online fraudsters impersonating Hollywood star Brad Pitt, has captivated international attention and sparked outrage over the audacity and cruelty of the perpetrators.
Anne, who believed she was in a romantic relationship with the 61-year-old actor, recounted how the scammers exploited her vulnerability with an intricate web of lies. They reportedly used AI-generated images and elaborate stories, including claims that Brad Pitt was in dire need of kidney cancer surgery and that his accounts had been frozen by his ex-wife, Angelina Jolie.
Fueled by emotional manipulation, Anne transferred her savings to what she believed was an account to aid the ailing actor, only to later discover the heartbreaking truth.
As investigations deepen, the French woman’s legal team has accused three Nigerians of being the masterminds behind the scheme.
In the wake of the controversy, Verydarkman took to his official Facebook page to express his disbelief over the involvement of Nigerian Yahoo boys in such a cruel act. In a fiery video that has since gone viral, he didn’t hold back, delivering a blistering critique of the perpetrators and the Yahoo culture at large.
VDM didn’t stop at criticizing the scammers for their actions; he went further, questioning the mindset that leads many of them to squander their ill-gotten wealth.
He painted a vivid picture of how money acquired through deceit is often recklessly spent on frivolities, lavish lifestyles, exotic cars, and fleeting pleasures, with no thought for the future or for the damage caused to their victims.
In a sharp but thought-provoking twist, Verydarkman turned the conversation toward a more constructive lens, offered an unsolicited financial masterclass to the fraudsters. He urged them to rethink their approach, emphasized that even if their actions were illegal, they could at least channel the stolen funds into projects that would benefit their communities.
The online critic spoke passionately about the potential for such vast sums to be invested in education, healthcare, infrastructure, and entrepreneurship, ways to uplift their states and Nigeria as a whole.
