Why I’m resigning from PDP – Regina Daniels’ mum, Rita speaks out shortly after son-in-law Ned Nwoko’s exit

Every political journey has its seasons, times of alignment, times of conflict, and times when the road ahead diverges. Staying or leaving is not always about power; sometimes, in Rita and Ned's case, it is about principle, survival, or a search for clarity.

The People’s Democratic Party (PDP) is on the verge of suffering yet another defection as Rita Daniels, seasoned Nollywood actress and politician, severs ties with the party in a stunning resignation.

In a move laced with frustration and disillusionment, Daniels, who once stood as a key player in the PDP’s Delta State chapter, has made it clear that the party’s internal rot is beyond repair.

Her announcement on Monday, February 3, accompanied by visuals from her tenure and resignation post, was not just a political statement but a stark warning about the PDP’s crumbling foundation.

Rita, who was appointed as the State Assistant Treasurer of the PDP in Delta State in 2020, did not hold back in her scathing assessment of the party.

She accused the PDP of undermining democratic processes, stated that the very constitution meant to uphold justice, equity, and good governance had been trampled upon by those in power.

Rita averred that amid her resignation stance, the PDP in Aniocha South Ward One retaliated by suspending her indefinitely, alleging anti-party activities.

According to Daniels, the Ward Chairman, John Nwona, informed her that a committee had already been set up to investigate her actions and decide whether she should be expelled from the party altogether.

Rita Daniels’ resignation comes just days after her son-in-law, Senator Ned Nwoko, hubby to her daughter, Regina, also dumped the PDP and defected to APC, cited internal divisions and unresolved conflicts that had rendered the party ineffective.

In his January 30, 2025 resignation letter, Nwoko revealed that the party’s Delta State leadership actively obstructed him from delivering on his campaign promises, made it impossible for him to fulfill his obligations to the people who elected him.
