The terrible treatment I received when I attempted to perform in pants like Fela – Asake recounts -VIDEO
  • Fast-rising singer, Asake reflects on the unpleasant reaction he received from the audience after he tried to perform in pants.
  • According to him, he aimed at replicating Fela’s style by mounting the stage in pants alongside girls dressed half-naked.
  • The crooner stated that the crowd’s reaction was unwelcoming as he got slapped and booed.

Famous singer, Ahmed Ololade, popularly known as Asake, recently shared an embarrassing experience from his early days in the music industry.

The incident occurred during a show where he made a bold and unconventional choice in his stage attire.

Speaking on the Ginger Yourself podcast, the hitmaker opened up about the ill-fated performance, where he decided to emulate the legendary late Fela Kuti.

Asake made a daring decision to storm the stage wearing only pants and was accompanied by scantily-clad ladies in an effort to garner attention.

However, much to his dismay, the intended plan did not yield the desired results. Instead of gaining admiration and acclaim, Asake’s audacious move backfired as he was met with a negative reception from the audience. The crowd’s response was far from what he had hoped for, and he faced the humiliation of being slapped, booed and ultimately forced off the stage.

He said:

“Before I got the attention, I strived till I graduated from the university. I strived for like [another] two years before people like accept me.

“So there’s this performance. I wanted to perform Fela, so I was on pants and saxophone. I packed like six girls on stage. I asked them to be half-naked. You know, one thing about Nigerians is that once people are naked, they just forget about all the thing that is happening and just focus. But these people [at the concert] stubborn o.

“Those girls just walked in, then me too. I just walked in majestically as a star boy. I did not know where the first clap come from. The audience was like, ‘No, no, no.’ Everybody, like 9,000 capacity, clapping that they don’t want it.”
