Salihu Tanko-Yakasai, spokesperson of Kano State Governor Abdullahi Ganduje, has criticised his party the All Progressives Congress (APC) over the rising trend in abduction of students particularly in the northern region.

Mr Tanko-Yakasai was reacting to the abduction of over 300 students from Government Girls Secondary School, Jangebe, Talata-Mafara Local Government Area of Zamfara on Friday morning.

The incident comes a week after dozens of students and teachers were abducted from Government Science College, Kagara, Niger state. They are yet to be released.

Speaking on the development, Tanko-Yakasai said the APC has failed to protect Nigerians.

“Clearly, we as APC government, at all levels, have failed Nigerians in the number 1 duty we were elected to do which is to secure lives & properties. Not a single day goes by without some sort of insecurity in this land. This is a shame! Deal with terrorists decisively or resign,” he said in a Twitter post.

The spokesman added: “Norm indeed, each time another tragedy happens, we lament, condemn, create hashtag, the govt pretends to do something, no concrete steps to prevent reoccurrence, and then we repeat the process. To what end? Where are those saddled with the responsibility?”

Just last week it was #freekagaraboys, today we have a new hashtag #RescueJangebeGirls, who knows tomorrow what hashtag we will come up with? Perhaps one for ourselves when we get caught up in one of these daring attacks. This is sad & heartbreaking, I feel helpless & hopeless 😪

This is not the first time Tanko-Yakasai will be criticising the APC.

Last year, he was suspended by the governor for accusing President Muhammadu Buhari of lacking empathy in the wake of the #EndSARS protest against police brutality.

He was reinstated after two weeks.
