Tweeps have gone wild with diverse reactions as to a certain poster of Peter Obi where recipients of an event were charged a fee.
Nigerians abroad are to reportedly host former governor of Anambra State and Presidential candidate of the Labour Party LP, Peter Obi in 5 US states for a town hall meeting/ lecture.
However, a registration fee for the event in Atlanta was pegged at $250 for general, $1000 for VIP, and $5000 and above for executives. This clause, was what caused mixed reactions as to why a fee was demanded, especially from a politician who is known for his ‘no shishi policy’.
While some believe it’s not right, some say the organizers of the lecture should be held responsible and not Peter Obi himself.
On Saturday, September 3, a popular Nigerian author, Farooq Kperogi posted a flyer containing the aforementioned details on twitter and captioned it:
“Ppl have asked if I’ll attend Peter Obi’s townhall meeting with diasporan Nigerians in Atlanta tonight. No, I won’t because it costs at least $250. I won’t pay shishi to listen to a man who doesn’t give shishi.“ The no-shishi policy shouldn’t be one-way; it should be reciprocal.”
Former presidential aide, Reno Omokri who also kicked against it tweeted:
“Ordinary seat = $250
VIP seat = $1000
Executive seat = $500
Peter Obi is just a clever man that knows he will not win and wants to use this election to cash out! Look at the prices he is charging. And he says he is for the poor! If you don’t have shishi, stay away!.”
