Why I allow Afrobeat in my church – Pastor Tobi Adegboyega speaks, calls on people to support worldly songs

Controversial clergyman, Tobi Adegboyega has finally given reasons he allows Afrobeat songs in his church despite being tagged as worldly or secular music.

This statement comes a few days after the UK-based pastor came under criticism for allowing his church choir to sing Davido’s Stand Strong during church service while he and others danced.

Adegboyega had also raised eyebrows after his church choir performed Oxlade’s hit track, ‘Ku Lo Sa’ alongside the crooner.

However, responding to critics, the pastor while speaking on the pulpit affirmed that Afrobeat ought to be supported.

He averred that the only way Christians can influence the words in Afrobeat is by accepting it rather than sidelining and tagging it as wordly.

He went on to urge people to support worldly songs as it is the brainchild of people’s creativity.

Captioning the clip, he wrote:

Afrobeat support! I said this in front of thousands of young people.
The “church” left politics, music, sports etc. We labelled it but the African churches still take their “offerings, tithe and donations” etc.

We have never taken anything from any, not a penny, but we must keep supporting.

We are involved (not just involved, we are No.1) in politics, governance, music, beauty, fashion, and business and we love Christ.

To influence, we must evolve then we can change some things there. We have done that with drill music in the UK.

Church is not for preaching to the converted weekly, it’s kingdom influence. It’s for society reformation.

(Not just afrobeats, comedy, african artists, restaurants etc.)
