Omoyele Sowore, the presidential candidate of the African Action Congress (AAC), has chastised President Muhammadu Buhari over the redesigned naira notes that were released on Wednesday.
He also slammed the Governor of the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN), Godwin Emefiele, calling both men crooks.
Sowore observed that there was no significant change in the naira, implying that Nigerians had been duped once more.
WITHIN NIGERIA recalls that President Buhari unveiled the redesigned N200, N500, and N1000 notes at the start of the Federal Executive Council’s weekly meeting.
While unveiling the redesigned N1,000, N500, and N200 notes, Buhari was flanked by Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Governor Godwin Emefiele and some cabinet members.
The new Naira notes will become legal tender on December 15, while the old ones will no longer be legal tender on February 1, 2023.
Nigeria will redesign some of its currency notes for the first time in 19 years.
Sowore, who took to Twitter to share images of the new notes, expressed disappointment at the development.
He wrote:
@GodwinIEmefiele of the @cenbank, and @MBuhari just played Nigerians over the fraudulent so-called redesign of the Naira. Nothing was “redesigned” just a change of dye. Crooks! #WeCantContinueLikeThis.
