A man identified as Adejo David, has been arrested by the Lagos State Police Command, for allegedly defrauding Point of Sale (POS) operators in Lagos state.
According to the video making the rounds, the alleged fraudster, on January 29, reportedly defrauded a POS operator of N838,000 after requesting for the operator’s hotspot connection.
Adejo has allegedly defrauded many POS operators within the state by attempts to make a cash deposit transaction of N3,000 before asking his victims to put on their hotspots for him to complete the transaction on his bank app.
The young man, on January 29, allegedly used the same methodology to transfer the sum of N3,000 only to a POS operator (a lady) and the transaction was confirmed. But, few minutes after he had left, the POS operator received an OTP code on her phone with an option to accept or decline the code, but out of fear, she accepted accept the code.
In seconds or so, an unauthorized withdrawal of N838,000 was made from her bank account and the transaction details revealed that the money was transferred into a betting account.
The case was reported to the police and investigation began with the phone number displayed on the debit alert. Adejo was eventually traced and arrested by the police on February 4..
He was arrested at the Eko Hotel and Suites. Meanwhile, Adejo confessed to the crime, adding that an hotspot connection was all that he needed to defraud his victims.
