The Lagos state police public relations officer, Benjamin Hundeyin, has addressed complaint trailing viral video of thugs disrupting the voting process at a polling unit in Lagos state.
The trending clip captured moment thugs stormed the polling unit, upturned the ballot boxes and destroyed the chairs. Some residents stood up to the thugs and a fight ensued.
Two unarmed police officers who were stationed at the polling unit, looked on as the brawl went on.
A Twitter user, @FS_Yusuf_, reshared the clip, claimed the police officers gave room for the miscreants to perpetrate violence.
The tweep wrote;
“What the fuck! In the presence of the police!??? And all they could say is that “they will write their report tonight!???”
In response, Benjamin Hundeyin, made a case for the officers.
Hundeyin said;
“What exactly did you want two unarmed police officers to do in this scenario? Everyone agreed from the onset that armed officers will not be at polling units so as not to scare voters away. While awaiting armed backup, they observed diligently. What else do you want, Yusuf?”
