An elderly woman has steadfastly refused to hand over her grandchild to the mother who abandoned him seven years ago.

A video documenting her emotional plea has gone viral on social media platforms, sparking widespread discussions about family, responsibility, and the rights of the child.

In the video, the elderly woman, whose identity has been concealed for privacy reasons, recounted the poignant story of how her late son and the boy’s mother welcomed the child into the world seven years ago.

Tragically, the mother vanished without a trace shortly after promising to step out for errands, leaving behind a void that the elderly woman had wholeheartedly filled.

With her modest earnings from a small trade, she singlehandedly raised the child, ensuring his education and providing for his needs.

The unexpected twist in the tale occurred when the mother reappeared after an absence of seven long years, asserting her claim over the child.

In the video, the grandmother expressed her deep love and dedication to her grandson, noting that he is the sole family she has left, given the passing of her husband and son.

Her emotional attachment to the child was evident as she passionately explained her unwavering determination to continue caring for him.

In other news, Mary Daniel, the twenty-seven-year-old amputee hawker, who became famous while selling sachet water on the streets of Lagos despite having one leg, has pleaded with Nigerians to forgive her for lying that her father was dead.

Daniel, who spoke with SaharaReporters on Thursday, said she made a mistake by saying her father was dead because the man abandoned her.
