A Nigerian man has come forward in support of the collaboration between popular rapper Naira Marley and the National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) aimed at combating drug abuse among the nation’s youth.
This partnership has sparked debates and discussions, as Naira Marley’s own history with drugs has been called into question.
The individual, who goes by the username @verydarrkmann on TikTok, utilized the platform to share his perspective on NDLEA’s decision to engage Naira Marley as an ambassador for their campaign against drug abuse.
Rather than echoing the criticism that has arisen, @verydarrkmann stood in defense of the choice, asserting that Naira Marley’s personal experiences lend authenticity to the message.
In his TikTok video, @verydarrkmann argued that Naira Marley, despite being known for his association with drugs, holds a unique position of influence and respect within society, especially among the youth.
According to him, Naira Marley’s status as a long-time drug user actually enhances his credibility in addressing the dangers of drug abuse.
“The youths trust Naira Marley,” @verydarrkmann expressed, emphasizing that the rapper’s firsthand experience could resonate more effectively with the target audience.
He likened the scenario to a smoker warning others against smoking, stating that such a message would carry more weight coming from someone who has lived through the consequences.
In contrast, using someone who has no history of drug use to convey the message might be less impactful as they lack the relatability factor.
In his words;
“The youths trust Naira Marley, because if a smoker comes out to tell them that smoking is bad, they’ll believe the smoker. Than carrying someone who doesn’t smoke to tell people to stop smoking. Nobody is going to believe that there’s danger by smokinɠ because he has no smoking experience.
So Naira Marley is the perfect person to pass the message.”
