“Its not heart break, it started after a ministration” – Family reveals genesis of Anambra pastor’s demise

The attention-grabbing headlines linking the Anambra Pastor's death to a heartbreak caused by his girlfriend held social media enthralled for an extended period, but family members have now vehemently debunked it, offered detailed insights into the events that culminated in his tragic passing

The family members of the pastor who is said to have tragically ended his life in Anambra state, are vehemently rejecting the claims that his suicide was prompted by his girlfriend’s rejection.

Reports made the rounds alleged that the girlfriend’s dismissal of Prosper Igboke’s marriage proposal, despite his substantial funding of her university education, led him to take the drastic step of ending his life.

The report conveyed his audacious and spine-tingling leap from a formidable two-story edifice, culminating in a heart-pounding and lamentable demise.

However, a maternal cousin of the deceased by the name of Promise Ikpe took to his Facebook page to debunk the viral report. In doing so, he unveiled the intricate circumstances surrounding the passing.

Ikpe emphatically stated that Igboke’s demise wasn’t a result of heartbreak caused by his girlfriend. Rather, he was wrestling with certain sudden mental struggles that emerged after a ministration.

According to him, Prosper embarked on a ministration trip to Nnewi, and upon his return, he exhibited a loss of mental coherence, showing signs of disorientation.

He mentioned that the reason behind this bewildering behavior remained unknown. Instead of seeking medical attention to address his mental state, his pastor confined him and appointed individuals to oversee his condition while he attended a meeting.

The cousin stated that Prosper eventually leaped from the room’s window where he was being held.

Adding to this, the cousin expressed that their attempts to inquire into the incident were hindered by the pastor, who refused to provide access to Prosper’s phone for investigation. The pastor alleged that Prosper had gifted him the phone.

Promise Ikpe wrote;

“I did this post to correct some of the false narratives flying around.”

“This is the report of what happened prior to his death.

“Prosper went for a ministration in Nnewi, and when he came back, he had lost his senses, he wasn’t mentally coordinated.

“No one knew why. His pastor locked him up and asked some people to watch over him while he went to a meeting instead of taking him to a hospital to find out why he wasn’t mentally coordinated.

“Prosper jumped from the window of the room he was locked in

“His pastor refused to give us his phone to investigate what happened to date. Pastor said Prosper had gifted him the phone.”

Another relative of the deceased, Chikwendu Anugba, didn’t hold back as he took to his Facebook page to clear the air and present the unvarnished truth.

He clarified that Prosper’s demise wasn’t a result of heartbreak, dismissing the speculative claims circulated by gossipmongers about his girlfriend. He emphasized that during the family’s period of sorrow, the girlfriend stood in solidarity with them.

Chikwendu went on to explain that Prosper’s burial on their farmlands wasn’t due to suicide. Rather, it was in accordance with their cultural customs, where it’s considered taboo for parents to bury their offspring.

He wrote:

Blogs went to market with the story that Obum committed suicide because he was jilted by his girlfriend who he trained in the university.

“I was wondering when he became rich and we didn’t know. Because the story did fit into certain narratives, the agendaists picked it up and ran without looking back. They said he committed suicide because of heartbreak. Meanwhile, the poor girl they maligned stood with the family in the time of grief.

“He was buried in our farmlands not because he committed suicide. But because in our tradition, it’s seen as an abomination for parents to bury their children.”
