Tijani Oluwatoyin Naheemah, a Nigerian lady, has emerged as the best graduating student of the 2020–2021 academic year at the Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta (FUNAAB).
Her outstanding academic achievement, marked by a remarkable GPA of 4.90/5.0, solidifies her place as one of the top students in the history of the institution.
In a recent interview with LegitNG, Tijani shared her inspiring academic journey, recounting the challenges and obstacles she faced along the way.
In her words;
My academic journey started at Christlead Nursery and Primary School in Lagos, then I proceeded to Unique Progressive College located at Sango, Ogun state.”
Tijani’s educational voyage began at Christlead Nursery and Primary School in Lagos before she moved on to Unique Progressive College in Sango, Ogun State.
Her journey into higher education took an unconventional turn when her initial ambitions to study nursing at the University of Ibadan and Science Laboratory Technology at Yaba College of Technology (YABATECH) were met with disappointment due to cutoff score requirements.
“Unfortunately, I didn’t meet up with the cut-off for both. Then, the journey to YABATECH began as I obtained a change of course form to study Nutrition and Dietetics. I obtained my National Diploma in Nutrition and Dietetics as one of the Best Graduating Students in the department with a CGPA of 3.79/4.0. Then I gained admission into Federal University of Agriculture, Abeokuta, through Direct Entry,” she said.
One of the most significant challenges Tijani faced during her academic pursuit was balancing the demands of motherhood, her marriage, and education.
“My challenge was balancing marriage, motherhood and education. But I was able to overcome them due to my determination,” she added.
For those aspiring to follow in her footsteps, Tijani offered invaluable advice. She emphasized the importance of self-discovery, avoiding procrastination, and inspiring others to learn.
“No matter how inconvenient it was for me, I didn’t stop helping my fellow mates with courses they are encountering difficulties. This also helps me in understanding the course better,” she concluded.
