Viral clip of Nigerian Lawyer ‘assaulting’ his wife in front of their kids triggers outrage

The harrowing act of domestic violence, particularly when displayed in front of children, is a profound violation that reverberates far beyond the immediate moment. The chilling footage of a Nigerian lawyer assaulting his wife not only highlights the immediate danger to the victim but also casts a long shadow over the children who witness such brutality. Their understanding of love, safety, and conflict resolution becomes irrevocably altered, leading to potential cycles of abuse that can extend into their future relationships.

A deeply disturbing video of a man allegedly assaulting his wife—both verbally and physically—has ignited an uproar across Nigeria, drawing sharp condemnation from concerned citizens and the Lagos State Domestic and Sexual Violence Agency (DSVA).

This troubling footage, which surfaced on October 27, 2024, captures Opeyemi Mabawonku, a lawyer and manager at PricewaterhouseCoopers (PWC), in a violent confrontation with his wife fueled by suspicions of infidelity.

The man can be seen shouting furiously, hurling objects around the room, and menacingly brandishing a flower vase as he threatens to use it against her.

The lawyer yelled in the video;

“I showed you the message and told you there was nothing between both of us. Are you unfortunate? I am warning you

“If you do not call anybody you are a bastard. Are you crazy? Do you want me to lose my job?”

The emotional turmoil is palpable as the woman pleads with him to control his anger, her voice filled with desperation as she implores him not to strike her in front of their innocent children.

She said;

“Be careful. You know the children are here. Whatever you do here the children are watching. Do not touch me.

“I will call my dad. I want to make you lose your job. Or it is the consequences of your immoral attitude?”
