I am not permitted to have sexual relationships, eat out, do other things – Adele of Iborapa laments (VIDEO)

  • In a candid and revealing interview, Adele of Iborapa opened up about her remarkable journey as a female traditional ruler in the heart of Yoruba land, offered an unfiltered look into the challenges and triumphs that have shaped her reign.
  • She shared intimate details about the strict dos and don’ts that come with her prestigious title, provided a glimpse into the deeply rooted customs and responsibilities that govern her role.
  • The conversation delved deeper as Adele discussed the fundamental principles she believes should guide the behavior and representation of Yoruba monarchs, particularly in a modern world.

Tinuade Babalola Adejuyigbe, the esteemed Adele 1 of Iborapa Akoko, Ondo Atare, during her candid appearance on the Yoruba platform, Oyinmomo TV, shared the unexpected and often harsh realities of her role, revealed how, as a Yoruba traditional ruler, she is bound by strict and unbending codes that dictate her personal life.

In the clip, she took everyone on a journey back to when she ascended the throne at the young age of 16. The female monarch shared the intriguing story of how she was chosen over both her elder and younger sisters, a rare and significant moment in the history of the Iborapa kingdom.

Tinuade also took the opportunity to address some of the contradictions surrounding Yoruba traditional rulers who hold titles abroad. She pointed out the growing trend of Yoruba monarchs taking on roles in foreign countries, noting the potential challenges this poses to the traditional systems in Nigeria.

However, the most poignant and raw part of her interview came when she spoke about the financial struggles she faces as a female traditional ruler. Tinuade openly decried the meager salary she receives monthly, stating how it often falls woefully short of meeting her personal and communal needs.

Despite her title and the heavy responsibilities that come with it, she revealed that it is incredibly difficult for her to provide for the welfare of her people.

Her voice was filled with frustration as she called on the government to take action, proposing that retired Adeles be provided with gratuities to ensure their financial well-being for life, after they have devoted their entire lives to the service of their people.
